The term heavyweight does not define one production specification. A reliable RFQ should identify the approved fabric composition and GSM target, face and back construction, shrinkage expectations, fit, hood shape, rib, drawcord, pocket, seams and finishing.
Fit and size chart
Provide an approved measurement chart and tolerance proposal. State whether the silhouette is regular, relaxed, oversized or custom.
Decoration and branding
Specify embroidery, print or patch dimensions and positions, artwork files, label set, hangtag and packaging. Large decoration areas may change drape or handling and should be sampled.
Evidence before claims
Do not use fabric composition, GSM, wash-performance or compliance statements commercially until the supplier evidence and approved sample support them.
Quote inputs
Send quantity, color split, size split, destination, packaging and requested trade term. The manufacturer can then review sampling and production timing for the actual program.
Describe heavyweight fabric without relying on a label
Heavyweight is not a standardized fabric weight. For a private-label hoodie, request an agreed fibre composition, target GSM, knitting construction, face and reverse finish, fleece or French-terry preference, stretch expectations and a colour reference. Ask whether the target weight applies to fabric before or after finishing, and document any acceptable tolerance. Fabric weight alone does not establish warmth, durability, softness or shrinkage. A buyer should inspect the supplier’s proposed material and approved sample before treating a number on a tech pack as a performance guarantee. Identify the target customer and season because a fashion oversized hoodie and a performance warm-up style can have different hand-feel, fit and care requirements.
Build a fit and construction reference
Specify whether the garment is regular, boxy, relaxed, oversized or cropped. Supply a measurement table for chest, body length, sleeve length, shoulder width, hood dimensions, pocket position, cuff and hem. Record the measuring method and allowed tolerances rather than simply asking for standard sizes. Agree the hood construction, lining if any, rib structure, drawcord and eyelet details, kangaroo or divided pocket shape, seam finishes and relevant reinforcement points. For a matching jogger set, include a separate garment measurement chart and waistband, drawcord, pocket and cuff specification. Request sample photographs of the actual construction and get fit changes signed off before bulk cutting.
Artwork, labels and packaging controls
Provide editable artwork with dimensions, approved placements and colour instructions for embroidery, screen print, transfer, patches or appliqué. State whether the print must remain soft against the fabric or whether raised textured finishing is acceptable, then check the sample result. Set out main neck label, size label, care label, hangtag, bag, barcode, carton and any retail-ready packing requirements. Packaging instructions should include how hoodies are folded and how colours and sizes will be separated. If multiple variants share the same label design, confirm which details still change by SKU. Ask for written approval of any substitute fabric, rib, drawcord or decoration method.
Price the collection and approve repeatability
A factory quotation should specify the exact garment construction, material, colourways, size splits, artwork, packaging, order quantity and shipping destination. Distinguish sampling cost from bulk garment pricing and separate production from freight lead time. For repeat orders, retain the approved fabric reference, measurements, wash and colour observations and decoration placement. Avoid assuming that a similar-looking replacement fabric will behave identically.
